About Advanced HR
Built for the way organizational challenges actually happen.
Organizations don't experience challenges in neat categories. A performance issue may be rooted in management practices. Turnover may point to something deeper in the way work, leadership, or opportunity is structured. A strategy can be sound and still struggle because the organization isn't equipped to execute it.
Advanced HR helps leaders understand what is really happening and determine what will actually help.
Talk With Advanced HR →Why Advanced HR Exists
Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of answers. It's knowing which problem you're actually solving.
Advanced HR was built after years of seeing organizational challenges from different sides of the business—and noticing how often the issue being addressed wasn't the whole issue.
A performance problem might really be a management problem. Turnover might point to something deeper. Even a sound solution can fail when it doesn't account for how the organization actually works.
And sometimes the organization didn't need another initiative at all. It needed someone to help make sense of what was already happening.
Advanced HR was created to be a different kind of partner: one willing to understand the situation before prescribing the answer, bring perspective beyond a single HR discipline, say what the evidence suggests even when the answer isn't obvious, and stay close enough to the work to help make the solution practical.
Today, that perspective continues to shape every engagement: understand what matters, bring the right expertise to it, and build solutions that make sense for the organization they're meant to serve.
Our Approach
Understand before prescribing.
It's easy to respond to the problem that's most visible. It's harder—and usually more valuable—to determine what is actually creating it. Advanced HR starts by understanding the organization, the evidence, the people involved, and the conditions surrounding the issue before deciding what should happen next.
Understand the context.
Decide what needs to change.
Then build around the problem that matters—not simply the symptom that appeared first.
What You Can Expect
Good advice requires more than expertise.
We won't assume the first problem you describe is the problem we need to solve.
We won't recommend something simply because it's considered a best practice.
We won't hand you a strategy that ignores the realities of execution.
Leadership
Experience that connects people, operations, and the business.
Shonda Sullivan founded Advanced HR with a perspective shaped by working across HR, organizational leadership, operations, workforce strategy, management development, change, process improvement, technology implementation, and performance measurement.
That breadth matters. Organizations rarely experience problems through the boundaries of a job description or consulting discipline. Her work has required moving between strategy and execution, executive decisions and manager realities, people questions and operating questions—and understanding how those pieces affect one another.
The work matters to me.
When an organization brings me into a difficult situation, I recognize what comes with that trust. There may be careers involved. Relationships. Business consequences. Decisions leaders have been wrestling with for months. Employees whose experience looks very different from what leadership sees.
My responsibility isn't to arrive with the fastest answer or tell people what they want to hear. It's to ask good questions, pay attention to what the evidence is telling us, bring the perspective I've gained from doing this work, and be candid about what I believe will help.
I also care deeply about whether the answer can actually work. A recommendation that looks impressive but sits on a shelf doesn't accomplish much. Some of the work I'm proudest of happens after the big idea—when we turn it into something leaders can decide from, managers can use, or an organization can sustain after my role in the work is finished.
That's the standard I bring to Advanced HR.
Flexible Expert Network
The work determines the expertise—not the other way around.
Some challenges require capabilities beyond a single discipline. When they do, Advanced HR brings specialized professionals and strategic collaborators into the work based on what the engagement actually requires.
Advanced HR remains accountable for the engagement while expanding the expertise or capacity around it when doing so creates a stronger solution. The result is a flexible model: the problem doesn't have to be forced to fit the resources already in the room.
What We Believe
A few things we aren't willing to compromise.
Tell the truth about the problem.
A comfortable answer isn't useful if it's the wrong one. We would rather surface a difficult reality that helps an organization move forward than make a recommendation everyone likes but nothing changes.
Context matters.
There are good practices. There are proven approaches. There are useful benchmarks. None eliminates the need for judgment. The right answer has to make sense for the organization, its people, its constraints, and what it is trying to accomplish.
Make the work useful.
Sophisticated thinking should create greater clarity, not unnecessary complexity. Our goal is to leave leaders better equipped to decide, managers better equipped to act, and organizations more capable—not more dependent on consultants.
That same commitment to looking beyond what's immediately visible led Advanced HR to create the Future Value Framework™—a proprietary methodology for understanding and strengthening the capacity of people, teams, and organizational systems to continue creating meaningful value as work evolves.

The best work starts with the right kind of partnership.
Look beyond the obvious answer.
The issue that brought us into the conversation may—or may not—be where the work ultimately needs to begin.
Want candid thinking, not confirmation.
We'll respect your perspective and bring our own.
Get the strategy right—and make it work.
The quality of the idea and the realities of execution both matter.
Act on what the evidence reveals.
Insight creates value when an organization is willing to do something meaningful with it.
